Register for Red Wine & Blue’s Social Banking event HERE!
Social media algorithms have a way of burying useful information right when people need it most. Days before an election, that costs us.
Social banking is how we push back. We get online at the same time and lift up the content that matters: voting plans, good information, and stories that stand up to political extremism. One post gets lost. Hundreds of people sharing together are much harder to bury.
Red Wine & Blue is hosting a virtual social bank this Monday night at 6pm ET, the night before Election Day, featuring Stacey Abrams and others. I’ll be there. Come say hi.
If you still need your plan, Red Wine & Blue’s voting guide shows your sample ballot, where to vote, and what to bring.
Our community doesn’t clock out on Election Day. Whatever happens Tuesday night, we’re in this for the long haul.
Cookie Vampire Bat Chocolate Cupcakes
Ingredients (makes 12 cupcakes):
For Chocolate Cupcakes:
1½ cups all-purpose flour (180g)
1¼ cups granulated sugar (250g)
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (25g)
¾ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup whole milk
¼ cup sour cream
½ cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
12 paper cupcake liners
For Quick Chocolate Frosting:
4 tbsp butter, room temperature
1½ cups powdered sugar
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons very hot water
For Cookie Vampire Bat Decorations:
18 Oreo cookies
30 to 40 White chocolate baking melts (expect some spoilage when cutting)
Red M&Ms or similar red-shelled candy
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with paper cupcake liners.
Whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk the milk, sour cream, oil, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until well combined and no dry streaks of flour remain. Divide the cupcake batter among the paper liners, filling each about ⅔ full.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for a few minutes, then remove and finish cooling on a wire rack.
While the cupcakes cool, make the frosting: In a medium mixing bowl add the butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder and salt.
Pour over the hot water and use a whisk to combine the ingredients together until whipped and smooth. Frost the cupcakes
To decorate with the cookie vampire bats, carefully pull apart 6 Oreo cookies and scrape off the filling. Cut each cooking in half, resulting in 12 half-circle shapes, these will be the bat wings. Set aside.
Make the bat fangs: Cut white chocolate baking melts into triangular wedges, enough to make 12 sets of two.
Complete the bat faces: Take one whole Oreo cookie, and use a little frosting to affix two whole baking melts to the flat side of the cookie for the eyes, and do the same with two red M&M candies onto the baking melts for the eye centers. Use the same proess to attach the fangs. It will take some patience. Repeat to make 12.
For each cupcake, place the cookie bat face into the frosting, and wedge behind it two cookie halves for the wings, and your cupcake is complete.
Enjoy!
