I was one of the Samaritan's Purse responders in 2014.
This article is spot on. Many of the people I worked with at USAID were incredible, selfless and incredibly courageous. I can't say how many of us would still have gone had those assurances not been there - it was not guaranteed when we first responded, and when Kent contracted the disease, there was a lot of uncertainty, but we knew in the back of our minds we were where we needed to be for the greater good, and we trusted that there were people in the world who would have our backs.
This government's disabling of our aid programs and subsequent abandonment of so many incredible programs and the people behind them is an underappreciated travesty. It is untold how much suffering and death this has caused in the world, and while I lament the loss of American soft power inherent in these programs, it's the real human cost that haunts me. When I close my eyes I cannot help but see the starving children who will not survive this callous and evil act by this administration.
Well said. Thank you for posting this. Shame on those who made this posting necessary! ❤️🌐❤️
Thank you for enlightening us on this history and the repercussions of USAID's dismantling.
But you can volunteer at the airport to screen incoming visitors for Ebola. Oh and the World Cup is starting. What could possibly go wrong? 😵💫😩
