We cannot condemn Donald Trump for his sexual assault convictions and his record of misogynistic comments yet give others a pass because they happen to share many of our other values or belong to the "correct" party.
Thank you for speaking aloud about this situation. As Annette said, “we cannot condemn Donald Trump… but give others a pass…” Ethics are not conditional.
"Either accountability applies when it is politically inconvenient, or it was never a value." Absolutely!! I sincerely hope he withdraws. Thank you for posting this.
"... [Y]ou cannot build an anti-authoritarian movement by asking women, survivors, and marginalized people to absorb harm in the name of winning." No, we cannot. This truth must be shouted from the tree-tops. It is vital.
Here in South Carolina, our Republican candidate was serving as Attorney General a few months back when the Feds informed Alan Wilson that there was a sitting SC House member, RJ May who would be charged with sexual crimes against children. This is what the prosecutor said, "South Carolina U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirling called the five charges, lowered as part of a plea deal, the "worst of the worst."
"These actions by (Robert) John May are deplorable, depraved and disgusting," Stirling said in a post-court press conference. "... We're still investigating. We're not going to stop until we try to identify everybody that's involved in these heinous acts"
Prosecutors said there are 62 known victims.
He still got a plea deal and only had to plead guilty to five charges. Alan Wilson the AG did nothing. RJ May did not step down or get removed from office until he was already incarcerated. Mr. Wilson knew the feds had their case locked up and that there was a minor child who lived with this man. No one swooped in to protect this potential victim. Since SC is such a red state, I guess this man will be our new governor. I guess we cannot even hope for justice in SC.

Thanks for shining a light on this horrible situation. Hopefully he'll do the right thing before the deadline.

As much as I don't like to hear this, I agree with your analysis and your conclusions.

When did "everyone’s values are disposable when power is on the line" become the Right's favorite claim? I don't think I hear that from it.
Who than?
Us. Stay tuned.
I voted for Platner - I was so hoping the "rumors" were not true, but the evidence seems to say otherwise, and "No means no!"
Sadly, again here we are. I agree but will they do the right thing….
