Thanks always for your good words. My big picture why was said well by Wendell Berry: "Rats and roaches live by competition under the laws of supply and demand; it is the privilege of human beings to live under the laws of justice and mercy." My gratitude for that blessed privilege connects me to all of creation. I am organically obliged to be dependent on the well-being of all. We flourish together, or not at all, in the truest measure of things.
I am 70. I care most about the world community I leave for my children, both public school educators. I want to leave them a moral, ethical, deeply caring path forward to thrive, to give forward and back. My own passion is environmental stewardship. It’s autumn and it is the time Mother Nature puts on the color parade for us to enjoy before she hunkers down for a reset for next year’s glory. I want us all to consider our responsibility to the world we inhabit and how to best serve that world going forward.
The blatant corruption and using the justice department and other government agencies to "get back" at those who criticize him. I'm distressed by the image of our country in the world and how long it will take to "clean up" the mess he and the current Congress are leaving behind. I'm worried about my grandchildren's lives in this era.
Hey Dad- I live in Massachusetts. We might be the ‘bluest’ state there is. But we have a charming businessman millionaire running against our Dem Governor who’s open about being a lesbian. His charming commercials started with ‘ and I’ll make your cities safe again’ -dog whistle to racists living here. His second one showed 2 guys in a bar discussing how‘always Democrat’ might be time for a change. He didn’t buy the guys a round of Sam Adams but he did donate over a million to the iDJiT’s campaign. After Kamala’s loss, I do not trust that we’re safe from the oligarchs takeover. By the way, it’s already gone down to below 32° at night here and home heating oil is $6.59 a gallon, double from last year. Home oil tanks capacity is 250 gallons. In an extreme cold snap that might last a week. Do the math. This is what Agent Orange has brought us.
My why: Healthcare for everyone. A quality Public Education for all. Opportunities for all. Following the actual words of Christ: feed the poor, heal the sick, clothe the naked, visit and care for those imprisoned especially those unjustly imprisoned, welcome the stranger into your land and treat them as your own. Living in a country that embraces mercy, justice, empathy, considering everyone as our neighbor including those in other countries. (We are one world, after all.) Caring and protecting our environment and all of nature. THIS is the world I wish to leave for my children and grandchildren. I am an activist, and I hope I get to see this come to fruition in my lifetime. Thank you for all of your posts and keeping everyone informed, Slade. You are a treasured voice.

I have often observed that when one has a strong enough “why”, the “what” often follows naturally.
