The homily at my wedding 45 years ago had a similar message from the pastor. It's not the big things that trip up a marriage but the small. It was a perfect message and we had a good marriage because of it. My husband died almost 8 years ago and your other message of "Keep them at the table" is perfection! We do that too! Raise our glasses to him, remember funny phrases, and share stories. Terrific advice! Thank you!!!
My daughter got married on the 24th her Dad passed 3 years ago. While we were divorced, we maintained a good relationship. I remarried, and my husband had a cool pin made that had my ex’s name woven into a guitar shape, he wore it on his lapel. We both walked her down the aisle and her Dad was there in spirit of the pin. It was a great day and it really meant a lot to her ❤️
What a beautiful response and now I am in tears. I don't know the couple and I only know you through your writings and recipes but this couple was given great advice by a very caring man. This made me proud to be part of this community and for what you do.
Your words rang so true. At our wedding in '83, the pastor and his wife juggled during his homily as an illustration. At one point, he dropped a couple of the balls. That, too, worked it's way into the good advice he gave on the sacred partnership. My Sweet Babboo now has Alzheimer's, which makes keeping the balls in the air even more challenging. But we're still in the game.
You know, Slade, I think your father-ness supports everything you write or talk about - cooking, politics, relationships - it all comes from a huge heart, beating with love. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing that! I appreciate it!
I love this! Great advice to the couple.

Your heart is so big! That is all so beautiful💕
I’m not crying, there’s just something in my eye.
You made all the right points, Slade. The wedding isn't the big thing, the marriage is and it's a day by day adventure.

Probably one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever read. Not crying at all. (My father was not invited to either of my weddings.)
I'm grateful that it reached you, Pamela.
Beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing this❤️
Thank you, Karen!

My father passed 22 years ago, 6 months before my wedding. This resonated with me too. And yes, Ia am crying.
