Thanks for this! The farm bill is something I've supported because of the nutritional assistance piece ... I worked for a non-profit food bank for 8 years. Putting this sort of nonsense in the farm bill will just delay needed resources for people who need it :-( I signed the thingy too.
Well said, good sir! I’m glad our congresscritters did the right thing. It blows my mind that the administration that treats poor immigrants as sub-human, yet takes expensive airplane bribes from wealthy foreign countries and still can’t explain their hypocrisy to voters in a way that makes sense. They just package it up and sell it as good for the country.
When you say, “This is one of those rare fights where the line does not run left against right. It runs corporation against citizen,” I would have to disagree. I don’t think it’s rare at all. I think the overwhelming greed of the corporation is just a way of distancing corporations from the actual people profiting from corporate greed. Look at healthcare. Look at predictive markets. Look at the business of lobbying that keeps paying our congresscritters to sneak things like this into another bill.
This is a huge reason why I am a vegan. I started years ago for health reasons. Then as I learned more about what has been so carefully hidden about how farm animals are treated, and even tortured in processing, I have become a stronger vegan. Haven't eaten pork in years. I found other ways to get what's considered to be the crispy yummy bacon flavor using certain methods of cooking vegetables. There are delicious and healthy ways of getting the protein my body needs. In making that a practice, after a while, I haven't missed the foods I used to like, even though I'm a real foodie.Eat healthier - save some animals. It's been a win-win for me. I understand that people come to their own conclusions and make their way about the decisions they make about what and who they eat in their own time and way. But just saying..
I applaud you. My daughter is also vegan - I have dabbled, but want to commit as it aligns with my values so much more than what I am doing now. Send some positive vibes my way, if you will, to help me move along this journey!
Good for you. The trick now is to find some really good vegan websites. I suggest Nard Dog Cooks, and Nisha Rainbow Plant Life as a start. Sending supportive vibes. 👍💕🌹
Also, I was not a big tofu lover for a long time. But cooking methods have come so far and now I found great things to do with it that tastes good. I've made a ground beef substitute out of it which is pretty good and also a deli meat substitute which is easy and such a positive surprise.
